OpenKirin's ROMs now support Honor 8, Honor Note 8, Huawei P9/P9 Plus, and Huawei Mate 8
Team OpenKirin has brought unofficial LineageOS 15.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo to the Honor 8, Honor Note 8, Huawei P9, Huawei P9 Plus, and Huawei Mate 8.
LineageOS is the most popular custom ROM for Android devices. It's often used as a base for other custom ROMs such as Resurrection Remix. There are other ROMs like OmniROM that are also popular and may or may not be based on LineageOS. Thanks to the efforts of the OpenKirin project, unofficial LineageOS, Resurrection Remix, and OmniROM builds are now available on the Honor 8, Honor Note 8, Huawei P9/Huawei P9 Plus, and Huawei Mate 8.
Honor 8, Huawei P9, Huawei Mate 8, and more receive Android Oreo with EMUI 8
Huawei has just released Android Oreo based EMUI 8 for Honor 8, Huawei P9, Mate 8 and 4 other devices. Keep in mind that update availability is limited.
Huawei is one of the few companies that consistently update their devices and fight to fix the state of the Android fragmentation. The list of Huawei and Honor devices which will get Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 was announced back in January. Today, Huawei keeping their promise and making Android Oreo-based EMUI 8 available those 7 devices. It is worth noting that these devices received an Android Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 beta update in China back in May. These devices include the Honor 8, Huawei P9, Huawei Mate 8, and more. Honor 8 Android Oreo update in testing with Project Treble support
Twitter user @dkionline tweeted out a couple of images that show Android Oreo builds for the Kirin 950 with Project Treble support. We have confirmed that this build is indeed for the Honor 8.
It's been a while since we last checked in on the status of Android Oreo for the Honor 8. Late last year, the Honor CEO said they were conducting tests on the Honor 8 (along with other devices) for the Android 8.0 Oreo update. A month later, Honor India stated that the Honor 8 would not receive the Android Oreo update. Then, just a couple weeks later, Honor said the device would get EMUI 8.0 features but not Android Oreo.

Project Treble is a major re-architecture of the way Android works. The result is that Android software updates should come faster on devices that support it. Also, it opens up a whole new avenue of custom ROMs. Check out if your device supports it!
Whereas Apple is able to keep most of their devices, even many older ones, up to date with the latest software (which sometimes involve rather controversial features), Android device makers have varying degrees of success keeping their devices up to date. That's without considering major software updates such as from Android Nougat to Android Oreo, a software release which is installed on only slightly more than 1% of all Android devices. Honor 7X and Honor 8 will get EMUI 8 in Q2 2018 according to Honor France
Honor France, on its Twitter account, has announced that the Honor 7X and Honor 8 will receive EMUI 8 in Q2 2018. It is unclear if this update will bring Android Oreo to the Honor 8, however.
The Honor 8 and the Honor 7X are two of the most popular Honor smartphones of all time due to their pricing. The Honor 7X was just made available in a limited edition red due to its popularity. However, both of these devices have not yet been updated to EMUI 8, the latest version of Huawei's custom Android software, so owners of these two devices have been curious about when they would be getting the update. Earlier, it was confirmed that both of these devices will be receiving EMUI 8, and now Honor France says these two devices will both receive the update in the second quarter of this year.
