Earlier this month, the team behind the LineageOS custom ROM officially rolled out LineageOS 17.1 based on Android 10. The update introduced several new features to the ROM family, including a new partial screenshot UI that lets you select smaller parts of your screen to capture and edit, a new ThemePicker app from AOSP, the latest Android security patches, support for on-screen fingerprint sensors, support for pop-up and rotating cameras, and much more. As with previous iterations of LineageOS, LineageOS 17.1 was initially available for a handful of popular devices, a list of which can be found in our original announcement post. As expected, the team has now added support for a couple of more devices, including the original Google Pixel, the Pixel XL, and the Nexus 6.

Samsung has been busy rolling out Android 10 updates to its flagship devices for the past few months now. The Galaxy 10 series was the first to receive the One UI 2.0 beta based on Android 10 in November last year while the Galaxy S9/ S9+ received their stable Android 10 update just yesterday. As for the Galaxy S8/S8+ and Galaxy Note 8, however, Samsung doesn’t appear to have any update planned. In fact, none of these devices are on the list of Samsung’s One UI 2.0 update schedule. This should hardly come as a surprise though, given all three devices are well past their standard 2-year software support window and have already received two major Android version updates during their run. So unless Samsung has any surprise planned, we are unlikely to see an official Android 10 update for the Galaxy S8/S8+ and Galaxy Note 8. But what if we tell you, you can still try out Android 10 on your device?

Xiaomi has been busy rolling out Android 10 to a range of Redmi and Mi lineup of smartphones, starting from the Redmi K20 Pro which received the update on the very first day Google released Android 10 to the more recent Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi K20, Mi 8, Mi MIX 3, and Mi 9 SE which received Android 10 just yesterday. The long list of devices means there are still many smartphones waiting for their turn to taste the sweet Android treat. One such Xiaomi device which has yet to receive official Android 10 is the Mi 9 Lite (aka Mi CC9 in China), launching first in China in July last year and subsequently arriving in the European markets a few months later. The device did receive the stable MIUI‌ 11 update around November but it was still based on Android 9 Pie — as opposed to Android 10 that many were hoping for.

Realme has been climbing the ladders of popularity in the Indian market, riding upon the value proposition offered by its aggressively priced smartphones. Thanks to the recent sales on Flipkart, the company managed to achieve 2.2 Million in smartphone sales, which is a good number for a brand that is just over a year old. Devices like the Realme 5 Pro, the Realme X, and the Realme XT are seeing massive interest from price-conscious customers in India, so we only hope the growth trajectory continues upwards in the future. If you are looking to pick up a Realme X for yourself in this sale season, you would be glad to know that unofficial builds of TWRP and LineageOS 16 are now available for the Realme X.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro was launched in India in February 2019, bringing over a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC and the 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor in a package which had Xiaomi's signature aggressive pricing strategy. Idrees praised the Note 7 Pro in his device review, which concurred along my own initial impressions of the device. The market reception for the phone agreed with us as well, as the Redmi Note 7 series surpassed 1 Million units sold in about a month of being made available in India, despite the 6GB RAM variant not being available for a long period. Xiaomi is definitely putting a lot of weight behind this product, as it also ensured that the phone had its kernel sources released promptly, and that it became a part of the MIUI 10 Beta program as well.

Huawei and their subsidiary Honor ship their smartphones and tablets with their EMUI software. It's a heavily modified version of the stock Android framework that offers a lot of features not found in AOSP. Some people prefer all of the added features while the stock Android purists would much rather have stock Android running on top of Huawei/Honor hardware. If that describes you, then you may want to check out the work done by the OpenKirin team. They recently released unofficial LineageOS, CarbonROM, and Resurrection Remix builds for all EMUI 8 devices.

Tablets can come in all shapes and sizes. Most tablets fall in the 7-10-inch range, but we've seen a few that push the boundaries. The Samsung Galaxy View is firmly in that discussion. This device has a whopping 18.4-inch display. You might think the size has more in common with a TV than a tablet. With the departure of Steve Kondik from Cyanogen Inc, we knew there would be a big shakeup with the way CyanogenMod was handled. An official blog post announced the servers and funds that were keeping CM up and running would be discontinued on December 31st. Then seemingly out of nowhere, CyanogenMod’s website, wiki, forums, Gerrit, and download servers were all shut down thanks to a change in their DNS.
