The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is launching in just under 3 weeks, which means it's time for the leaks to start intensifying. The S Pen on the Samsung Galaxy Note series of smartphones is what makes the Note, well, the Note. This year's upgrade of the Galaxy Note series is going to include an updated, Bluetooth-enabled S Pen with some new, smart features. The smart features on the new S Pen have been rumored, but now we are able to confirm many of these features thanks to leaked firmware from the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 running Android 8.1 Oreo (the only Samsung device with Android 8.1). Since the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will also run Android 8.1 Oreo, the files from the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4's firmware can be examined to look for any references for the Bluetooth-enabled S Pen—and there were many references.

An anniversary? Set a heart on the date of your anniversary and you'll see it whenever you open your calendar. On older Samsung devices, the S Planner application allowed you to set a sticker for a particular day, exactly in the same manner that the Samsung Calendar application lets you.

We're just about halfway through 2017, and the Samsung Galaxy S8 still remains as one of the most attractive smartphones that money can buy. The S8's Infinity Display truly is something to behold, but while Samsung may have knocked it out of the park with the S8's screen, the company's latest flagship still suffers from something that Samsung has struggled with for years - software lag and stutters.

It feels like Samsung wants to make us scratch our heads and wonder what it is doing quite often and today is no different. Late last night a discovery on the Galaxy S7 subreddit led me to trying out a new application for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. TouchWiz has by far been the most controversial ROM to make it into a flagship. Since the early days of the S line-up, people have compared it to Stock Android, and the offerings of the competition, on a daily basis. While it is true that Samsung has often strayed from the path of Google's original and personal vision for Android, some of these diversions have proven to be successful not just for Samsung's revenue, but for the Android platform as a whole. Features we use every day like quick-toggles were originally popularized by Samsung, and I suspect things like the expanded power-menu and multi-window will probably soon arrive to AOSP as well, given that they seem long overdue at this point.
